Can you tell me how to hook a dvd player up to a high definition converter box?

You don’t. The DVD player connects directly to the TV set using the HDMI cable. I assume both are hi-def compatible. If either one isn’t, then you can only view it in standard def. You will need to use the RCA audio/video connections, or the red/green/blue video connections with RCA audio. Your converter box is only for receiving TV signals over-the-air from broadcast stations.
